Energy Efficiency Lighting System in Themistokli Gërmenji Park in Korça

On Tuesday, 15th April 2014, on the occasion of closing event for the project "Energy Efficiency Lighting System in Themistokli Gërmenji Park”, several promotional activities were organized in Korça. The project enabled the setting up of the LED technology lighting systems for the main parks in Korca: ThemistokliGërmenji and Vangjush Mio.

The activities started with an awareness campaign on energy efficiency organized at Themistokli Gërmenji Park where schoolchildren distributed leaflets and placed posters prepared by them to inform people about the new lightning technology. It was followed by the inaugural ceremony attended by the Prefect of Korça Mr.Ardit Konomi, the Mayor, Mr.Sotiraq Filo, GEF-SGP Local Coordinator, Mr.Arian Gaçe, Head of INCA, Mr.Zamir Dedej and other representatives from local community and NGOs, students, citizens, etc. In a symbolic way, as soon as the evening fell, the park was lit by the LED bulbs.

The project "Energy Efficiency Lighting System in Themistokli Gërmenji Park" is funded by GEF and Korça Municipality. It aims not only to contribute to the country's energy efficiency by installing the new LED lighting system technology, but also to provide new approach by creating a model to be used in other parts of public lighting system. The use of LED lamps in public lighting is an alternative way that leads to the reduction of energy consumption.

Through this project, the implementing organization INCA - Institute for Nature Conservation in Albania, realized in a short period of time, a direct investment to enable the installation of 35 piles of high voltage along with the LED lightning lamps in two parks of the city. The implementation of a new lighting system in this park improves the lighting quality and promotes a new way of protecting nature with environmentally friendly technologies. LED lamps provided by this project will reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the atmosphere, creating a friendly and healthier environment for all.
