Sazani island, a new protected area in Albania?

In the framework of developing the management plan for the Karaburun-Sazan Marine Park and the Sazani Island (terrestrial part), the Institute of Nature Conservation in Albania (INCA) together with WWF Mediterranean Programme (WWF MedPO) and Conservatoire du Littoral (CdL) in cooperation with the Albanian Ministry of the Environment organize two events that were held back to back: a two days workshop as the third MPA Management Planning workshop “Developing the zoning proposal” followed by one day workshop entitle “Sazani island, a new protected area in Albania? A management plan for Sazani Island”. The meetings will be held in Hotel Partner Vlora, on September 17-19, 2014. Despite having different objectives, both workshops share a common goal: the development of the first management plan for the Marine Park and the Island of Sazan. Through these management plan the organizers aim to develop mechanism towards sustainable development of the protected areas territory but also to help develop economy of the surrounding area. Both workshops are trying to strengthen the capacity and skills of government institutions, local authorities, MPA managers, practitioners and officials of relevant authorities, NGOs, etc., by providing them with the tools and know-how needed to improve the management of the existing Marine and Coastal Protected Areas, and to assist them in developing the Management Planning process.
