Community Action in Protected Areas

February 2020

- As part of the ACAP project, the Nonda Bulka School Permet organized an environmental education class with theme "Bredhi I Hotoves, Symbol of Life and Peace", during which the pupils created in their classroom a reflection of this National Park, even with elements collected from nature such as leaves and cones

- In frame of ACAP project, “Meleq Gosnishti” School in Permet, organized an environmental education class with theme "Making Citizens aware of environmental protection" in order to implement a mini-campaign created by pupils in the school premises and presented to people who were passing nearby, through brochures with environmental messages and the examples the school follow on waste differentiation.

- Work continues on the establishment of a nursery on the premises of the Hasan Mehilli Dukat School, within the framework of the "Children for Llogara Park" project supported by ACAP and INCA.
In this nursery there are grown not only high plants which are representative of the national park but also medicinal plants such as tea, common sage ect., which are widely used by the community nearby. It is precisely the pupils of this school who participate in its creation and in the ongoing maintenance to be used later as an area for educational curriculum.

- Based on the educational curriculum at the “Lef Salata” Vlora school, environmental education classes continue with the aim of involving pupils on environmental issues.
One of the topics covered was the use of sounds from wildlife starting with the communication between them and the phenomenon of echo-location.
It is important for future generations to connect every learning topic not only with human beings, but also with nature by treating every living organisms equally

- Depending on the climate, geographical location and landscape of your backyard, school, and place you are living, you can see a lot of bird species during the winter months.
The most common winter birds include: sparrows, great tit, blue tit, robin, etc. These birds are very close to the places of residence, as they are easier to find food. Students of Pilo Prifti School Novosele, from Ist-4th grade, in frame of ACAP project realized today an environmental class on building feeders for birds using the recycling methods.

- Within the ACAP project and INCA support, environmental education classes continue at the “Pilo Prifti” School, Novosela, with theme "Our Behavior for a Clean Environment. To discuss the environment and its elements”, developed with 9th grade students.
During this class, students not only worked on the negative behaviors that affect biodiversity, but also on the activities they can do as students and as part of the community in preserving the nature and the environment around us.
To give a positive message, this class ended with the planting of trees in the schoolyard as a positive behavior and an example to be followed by other students.

- As part of the ACAP project and with INCA support, “Nikolla Xhuveli" school, Narte held an environmental education class on "Medicinal plants, their use and importance". During this hour some of the medicinal plants were studied, planted in the school premises as well as microscopic observation of plant elements

- Primary schools environmental education is a crucial stage in the development of a person's behaviour, social awareness and interest. At school we learn values and behaviours that will stay with us throughout our adulthood and define who we are. That is what makes it so important to spark an interest in caring for and protecting the environment while children are still at school.
The pupils of the first grade of Pilo Prifti School, Novosele conducted an environmental education class, starting with the first behavior for a quality environment, such as planting flowers in the environment where they learn for hours, bringing the breath of nature.

- In framework of ACAP project, and with INCA support, an environmental education class on "Deforestation, environmental impacts and human life" was held at the "Zihni Toska" school in Berat.
Students illustrated through their work how they see and think of deforestation, bringing a range of information about the impact that deforestation has on biodiversity, including humans.
"What we are doing to the world's forests is just a reflection of what we are going to do to ourselves and others"
——— Mahatma Ganthi ————

- "Natural and Cultural Heritage" is the topic addressed through this outdoor excursion with students from Hasan Mehilli School, within ACAP project and INCA support for environmental education.
The goal of this activity was to connect nature and its elements with historical and cultural elements. In order to have sustainable development it is very important that tourism development is done in harmony with nature. When tourism includes historical elements that are located and preserved inside a protected area, the importance of certain objects becomes greater, providing more opportunity to know even more nature nearby.
In the northernmost part of the Narta lagoon, the "Lagoon of Kallëngë", with a lot of natural beauty and biodiversity values, there are also historic bunkers among the largest, which attract a large number of tourists. . Their presence, together with the lagoon and forest of Pishe Poro, constitute a harmonious and balanced ecosystem of great natural and historical value.
It is important to note that in field activities, but also in everyday life, students should avoid using plastic bottles as much as possible, so for an effective message today we have replaced everyone's plastic bottles with thermoses (flask) special for water, avoiding single-use plastic.

- Within the ACAP project, on February 20-21, we were in Përmet city for the development of 2 hours environmental education classes with pupils of the “Meleq Gosnishti” school, in the 5th and 6th grade, on the theme “Care of nature” and "Environment and Pollution of Water, Air and Land".
Any information received about the environment and the involvement of pupils in thinking and deriving results from their work further enhances their environmental education, slightly changing their behavior in relation to the environment and the surrounding environment.

- Within the ACAP project, the Nonda Bulka School, Përmet, held an environmental education class on "Food chain in Natural Ecosystems and Impacts on this balance", based on their school curriculum.
A variety of natural or human factors can affect these balances by causing negative effects following food chain, from 1 group to another.
